Birthday parties are active ninety-minute programs that bring nature to life for children in a hands-on, intimate setting. Parties offer children turning ages 4 - 12 a unique informal setting where they can meet live animals, take a hike and play educational nature games that will entertain the entire party! Birthday Party FAQ What do your birthday parties include? Your child’s birthday party, regardless of theme, will include: -a hands-on, educational activity -an engaging craft -meeting 3-4 of our LIVE animals -a hike down to the creek How long are your birthday parties? Our parties are 90 minutes in length. What do I need to bring? We supply all of the educational materials and project supplies. You may provide cake, plastic silverware, and juice boxes. Please note that decorations such as balloons, piñatas, or streamers are not permitted at any location in accordance with National Park Service rules. Additional foods such as pizza, ice cream, and crumbly snacks are not permitted. How much do you charge? If you are a current Living Classrooms member, the price for a birthday is as follows (for up to 15 children): Weekday: $ 225 Weekend: $270 Additional Child Fee: $16 per child up to 10 (maximum is 25 children total) If you are not a member of Living Classrooms, the price for a birthday is as follows: Weekday: $250 Weekend $300 Additional Child Fee: $20 per child up to 10

Come learn and meet the growing animals of Living Classrooms. Let your child and friends go eye to eye with some of our critters and explore how they feel and move. We’ll also take a trip down to our creek and make a hand-print craft, sure to be perfect for a scrapbook or memory box! Your child’s birthday will be one memories are made of! These parties are available for 10 children and 10 adults for the standard price. Any additional kids above the 10 are $10 a piece. Sensational Seedlings Does your little one have a green thumb? Then this is the perfect party for you! Learn all about how seeds grow to be big plants and plant a seedling to take home! Get down in the dirt with your toddler as they plant their first garden! You’ll also get to explore the great outdoors and meet animals who are helpful to our gardens! These parties are available for 10 children and 10 adults for the standard price. Any additional kids above the 10 are $10 a piece. Party Themes for Children turning 4-8 What Big Teeth You Have! See the world through the eyes of some of nature’s most fearsome creatures as you pounce into this predator party. Go eye to eye with a dragon, stalk your prey through in our woods, and make your own creepy craft. You’ll even get a chance to try out your predatory skills with an awesome predator-prey game! Mammal Mania Super Snakes Slither into our site for a ssssuper sssspecial ssssnaky birthday party! Learn awesome snake facts, make a "snake" to take home, go on a snaky hike through our woods, and even meet a real life snake that lives at discovery creek! Icky, Slimy, Awesome! Love everything icky, sticky, and slimy? Come celebrate your birthday with some of our grossest critters. Meet animals like Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches and bearded dragons and discover they are really nothing to be afraid of. Go on a hike through our woods to look for icky slimy critters in the wild, and make an icky slimy craft. Fun-a-saurus If you’re crazy about dinosaurs, then this is the party for you! You’ll learn all about the thunder lizards as we go on a hike to play dinosaur-related games and make dinosaur crafts. You’ll even get to meet some of their real, live, reptilian descendants! Party Themes for Children turning 7-11 Wacky Wetlands (Offered from the end of March through October). It's a wet and wonderful time to be partying in our woods! Splash down with us as we wade into this creek-based adventure. Use dip nets, magnifiers and your own eyes to discover what inhabits our creek's watery depths. Play watery nature games and even meet some of our own wet and wild creatures. Please have your children and guests wear shoes that can get wet. Prehistoric Par-tay This is the party for budding paleontologists, or anyone eager to adventure into the amazing age of the dinosaurs. We’ll hike through the woods to excavate “dinosaur bones,” make our own dinosaur, and top things off by meeting some of the dinosaurs’ living descendents! Awesome Amphibians, Radical Reptiles Some of our coolest animal friends are downright cold blooded. Learn the difference between reptiles and amphibians as you slither and stomp your way into this slimy scaly party. Meet some of our reptiles and amphibians and discover how they sense the world, test your own senses with nature games and a hike through our woods, and make your very own slime. Advanced Party Theme for Children turning 8-12 Boating Bash Become the first mate for the day on the historic Half Shell, a historic Chesapeake Bay buy boat! Party-goers will have a turn to build their own boat, fish for creatures from the deep, dissect a clam, and navigate the Potomac River. You’ll even have the chance to take the wheel and drive the boat with the Captain!
This new birthday party takes place on the Potomac River, on board the Half Shell docked at the Gangplank Marina on the SW waterfront. The total number of guests permitted is 20, with a minimum of 3 chaperones.
